My how time flies when you’re having fun!! This will be my 21st year in the classroom. Life is never dull as each year brings a new set of cherished gifts – the students and their families. I enjoy teaching second grade, because I see so much growth in the children, both socially and academically. I’m looking so forward to working with you and your child in giving a challenging and rewarding learning experience. The key to success in this endeavor is open communication. The primary tool for open communication will be the homework folder, so make sure you go over the folder thoroughly during the first week of school and that you check each and every night throughout the year.
I am 29 years old (ha!) and have been married for 21 years. I have one daughter, Sara Ellis, who is in the 11th grade this year. We live right here on James Island, and love the close knit community. I do like to go “back home” to visit my mom in Greenville whenever possible. We have the best of both worlds – the beach in Charleston and the surrounding mountains when we visit the upstate.
I went to Winthrop College as an undergrad and received a degree in Interior Design. After working in the field for several years, I decided that I needed a more rewarding career and that I would much prefer working with children. I went to the College of Charleston, and received a Masters of Art in Teaching plus 30 (and then some) extra hours of course work. In addition, I successfully completed National Board Certification in 2001, and completed the renewal certification process in 2010.
