Welcome to Physical Education!!
My name is Kate Atkins and I am the Physical Education teacher at Stiles Point. This is my 14th year teaching, but only my 2nd year teaching full time at Stiles Point. Before moving to Charleston, I lived and taught in Shreveport Louisiana. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Communications. After college, I spent 3 years teaching tennis and lifeguarding. It was at that point I decided to make my life long love of sports my career. I went back to school for my masters. I graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana with a Master of Arts in Teaching with a certification in Health and P.E. Additionally I earned a second masters degree in Education with a concentration in Exercise Science. I love everything about teaching PE. Its my honor to expose children to a variety of fitness and movement activities. It is my goal to help develop in my students a love & appreciation for physical fitness.
In my spare time I like to stay active my working out & spending time on the water (surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding.) I have resided in Charleston for 7 years, but am originially from Kennebunk Maine. I am the proud Aunt of three nephews and two neices. I am married to my wonderful husband who teaches Drama at Sander Clyde Elementary/Middle. We are the proud "fur-parents" of our sweet dog Abby who we rescued from Pet Helpers:)
