Application Process and Timeline

Only children, who are four years old on or before September 1st of the current year, will be eligible for screening into the Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Pre-K/CD program. The following regulations and procedures have been initiated to bring transparency and consistency to the process.

Applications

  1. The initial application period for Child Development is the first day of March through the end of May. See the timeline below for further information.

  2. During the application period, families should submit their completed CCSD Child Development Application, Child Development Family Survey and required documentation* to schools. Families are required to apply at the elementary school where they are zoned to attend.

           A complete application includes:

    1. CCSD Child Development Application (English, Spanish or Bilingual).

    2. Child Development Family Survey (English, Spanish, or Bilingual).

    3. Required documentation - legal birth certificate, proof of residency, and certificate of immunization. The application is not considered complete until schools receive child’s legal birth certificate and proof of residence.

  3.  Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment in a CD program. Priority will be given to children who demonstrate academic or developmental needs AND have school readiness risk factors.

  4. In order to be screened during the initial (May) screening period, parents should submit their applications no later than the last day of May. We encourage families to apply early.

  5. Schools will review applications and schedule individual screening appointments. At the beginning of May, schools will mail the CD Screening Appointment Notification or contact parents by phone. Screenings will be held at the school at the completion of the CD school year.
