Student library use:

The Library Media Center is open Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to
3:15 p.m.
Students are welcome to come check out books after the morning news
program ends.
Each class at SPES in grades K - 5 visits the library for 40 minutes each
week for information literacy lessons, readers advisory and
author information, and to check out new materials.

Check out policies:

  • All students may check out books.

  • Staff may check out books, videos, DVD's and periodicals.

  • Students in grades K and 1 may borrow 1 book at a time.

  • Students in grades 2 and 3 may borrow up to 2 books at a time.

  • Students in grades 4 and 5 may borrow up to 3 books at a time.

  • Materials are checked out for one week.

  • Books may be renewed for 1 additional week.

  • Kindergarten students check out books for one week.

  • Students are not allowed to borrow if they have overdue materials.

  • Once the overdue materials are returned, or lost books are paid for, borrowing privileges will begin again.

  • Students are not charged overdue fines.

  • Library books are regularly returned on the morning of the class's library day.

  • They also may be checked out or returned any other day as well.

Damaged and Lost Books:

  • Lost books must be paid for before students will be allowed to check out another book. In addition, students will be asked to send money for damaged items. Cash or checks made out to “Stiles Point Elementary” are accepted for payment.

  • We will refund money for any books that are found before the school year ends if the amount is over $10.00. If the amount is $10.00 or less, we will not be able to provide a refund.

Would you like to help? We can always use library volunteers. If you are interested, we would love to have you come in to help whenever you are available--for 15 minutes, an hour, or half of a day; whatever your schedule allows. Working in the library is fun and rewarding. It is a great way to get to know both students and teachers. Please contact Mrs. Cooper at leslie_cooper@charleston.k12.sc.us or drop by the library for more information.
